Clinical and sociodemographic differences in adult women and men with obsessive-compulsive disorder
(Yerküre Tanıtım & Yayıncılık Hizmetleri A.Ş., 2024) Çoban, Deniz Adnan; Tan, Oğuz; Gündoğmuş, İbrahim
Objective: Gender is related to differences in the prevalences, manifestations and comorbidities of mental disorders. Findings on the effect of sex on adults with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) are limited and inconsistent. We aimed to compare male and females with OCD in a large sample of adults. Methods: We included 559 patients with OCD (299 females, 50.68%). We employed the Yale-Brown Obsession and Compulsion Scale (Y-BOCS), Hamilton Depression Rating Scale-17 (HDRS-17) and Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI). We gathered data about the onset of illness, the years of education, marital status, long-term unemployment, history of hospitalization and suicide attempts, lifetime attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), tic disorder, alcohol use disorder (AUD), substance use disorder (SUD), smoking and symptom dimensions. Results: The Y-BOCS, HDRS-17 and BAI scores were significantly higher in women. Men were characterized by earlier onset of OCD, younger age, longer years of education, higher prevalence of past or current tic disorders and higher frequency of AUD/SUD and smoking. Ratio of being married was higher among women whereas most of males were never-married. History of suicide attempt was more common among women. Conclusion: Our research offers additional support for variations in clinical characteristics of OCD based on gender. It is essential to investigate the biological foundation of gender differences on OCD.

Priority based vehicle routing for agile blood transportation between donor / client sites
(IEEE, 2017) Karakoç, Mehmet; Günay, Melih
In this paper, we study Vehicle Routing Problem (VRP) for Blood Transporters (BTs) and propose an efficient vehicle routing scheme for blood transportation between hospitals or Donor/Client Sites (DCSs) within a region that is based on Artificial Intelligence. It is assumed that each BT in a fleet of vehicles starts and completes its route at a blood-bank while visiting a subset of DCSs using the shortest path. However, unlike traditional logistic planning, blood transportation may be time critical. Therefore, in our approach, the vehicle routing is formulated to take into account the urgency of the requests and responses. Consequently, the objective of this study is to minimize the number of BTs while maintaining their minimum traveling lengths considering priority. In this regards, we extended the classical Capacitated VRP (CVRP) and reformulated requests to take into account the priority by assigning weight to each request. A hybrid meta-heuristic algorithm including Genetic Algorithms and Local Search is used to simulate transporting blood requests of DCSs. We challenged our approach with symmetrical CVRP instances taken from literature. In this case study, we observed that both the cost and response time are reduced dramatically for emergency.

Essential oil content and components in different purple basil genotypes according to the diurnal changes
(BANGLADESH BOTANICAL SOC, 2023) Türkmen, Musa; Ertekin, Esra Nermin
In the present study the diurnal variations in plant parts of different purple basil genotypes were determined. Three different purple basil genotypes (Arapgir, Piros and Midnight) were used as plant material. Plants were harvested at 06:00, 12:00, 18:00 and 00:00 hrs to determine the diurnal variation within a day at harvesting time. Essential oil ratio among genotypes, harvesting times and parts of plant varied between 0.460.95%, 0.60 to 0.92% and 0.14-1.29%, respectively. Essential oil ratios among the triple interactions were found to range from 0.05 to 2.57%. The major essential oil was linalool in all genotypes. Results showed that the higher essential oil ratio can be obtained from dry flowers of Arapgir genotype harvested at 00:00 and also, Midnight genotype contained higher essential oil content than others.

Automated diagnosis of Alzheimer's Disease using OCT and OCTA: a systematic review
(IEEE-INST ELECTRICAL ELECTRONICS ENGINEERS INC, 2024) Turkan, Yasemin; Boray Tek, F.; Arpaci, Fatih; Arslan, Ozan; Toslak, Devrim; Bulut, Mehmet; Yaman, Aylin
Retinal optical coherence tomography (OCT) and optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) have emerged as promising, non-invasive, and cost-effective modalities for the early diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease (AD). However, a comprehensive review of automated deep learning techniques for diagnosing AD or mild cognitive impairment (MCI) using OCT/OCTA data is lacking. We addressed this gap by conducting a systematic review using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) guidelines. We systematically searched databases, including Scopus, PubMed, and Web of Science, and identified 16 important studies from an initial set of 4006 references. We then analyzed these studies through a structured framework, focusing on the key aspects of deep learning workflows for AD/MCI diagnosis using OCT-OCTA. This included dataset curation, model training, and validation methodologies. Our findings indicate a shift towards employing end-to-end deep learning models to directly analyze OCT/OCTA images in diagnosing AD/MCI, moving away from traditional machine learning approaches. However, we identified inconsistencies in the data collection methods across studies, leading to varied outcomes. We emphasize the need for longitudinal studies on early AD and MCI diagnosis, along with further research on interpretability tools to enhance model accuracy and reliability for clinical translation.

Happiness, job stress, job dedication and perceived organizational support: a mediating model
(EMERALD GROUP PUBLISHING LTD, 2023) Akgündüz, Yılmaz; Bardakoğlu, Övünç; Kızılcalıoğlu, Gaye
Purpose - Based on The Conservation of Resources Theory (COR), Spillover Theory and Social Exchange Theory (SET), this study investigates the mediating role of job dedication in the relationships between job stress, happiness and perceived organizational support (POS). Design/methodology/approach - Data were collected from 5-star resort hotel employees in Turkey. 362 valid questionnaires were collected. The research hypotheses were tested using Covariance-Based Structural Equation Modeling (CB-SEM). Findings - The analysis results show that POS is positively related to employee happiness and job dedication. Job stress is negatively related to employee happiness but positively related to job dedication. Job dedication partially mediates the relationships between job stress and happiness, and POS and happiness. Research limitations/implications - The study's findings could be used by hotel managers to improve employees' job dedication, which will lead to increased employee happiness. Together with qualitative and quantitative research methods, future research could be conducted on the predecessors of job dedication and comparatively on employee happiness for different country samples. Practical implications - In order to increase employee happiness, Turkish hotel managers may want to increase POS and decrease perceived job stress of their employees. Although it was found out in this study that job stress increases job dedication, it is also accepted that this unexpected situation arises due to special conditions. Therefore, by reducing job stress, hotel managers may prefer to increase the job dedication of their employees and their happiness indirectly. Originality/value - The current study contributes to the hospitality management literature by investigating the organizational factors behind employee happiness. In addition, it also explored in depth the mediating effect of job dedication on the relationships between POS, job stress and happiness.
